What is Labia Reduction?
Labiaplasty, or a labia reduction, is a surgical procedure that reduces the size and length of the labia minora, as well as improve symmetry of the labia. This procedure is perfect for those that experience excessive itchiness in this area, lack of confidence, and pain and discomfort from sexual activity. Patients are able to benefit from this surgery through a more painless sex life and boosted self esteem.
About Labia Reduction
Your surgeon will discuss with you what is realistic in your personal goals you want to achieve with this procedure. The procedure is quite simple--any excess tissue is trimmed away. Your surgeon will overall try to achieve symmetry to the best of their ability depending on the state of your labia. Any extra folds on the hood of the clitoris can be reduced or removed to help achieve symmetry. The total time for this procedure is one hour.
Labia Reduction Recovery
Dressings are applied to the area to aid with swelling, the most common side effect from this procedure. Swelling is mostly gone after six to seven weeks, but may take up to six months to completely heal. Icing the area with a cold compress and keeping the entire bottom elevated while lying down helps reduce swelling. Sexual intercourse and the use of tampons are restricted for four to six weeks. The majority of patients are able to return to work after one week. Pain associated with this procedure is minor, and is managed with prescribed pain medication.
