A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that raises the appearance of the brows and improves the forehead area. A brow lift is able to improve brow asymmetry, and forehead wrinkles, and even reposition the placement of the brows. Your surgeon will discuss with you what is realistic in your personal goals with this procedure, as well as perform a thorough examination of your face, take photographs, and assess your overall medical history. Your surgeon will also communicate with you what the likely results will be with this procedure. Is it important to note that due to aging, a brow lift does not provide permanent results as the skin naturally sags and wrinkles with the passage of time? Two commonly used techniques are endoscopic and coronal incisions. With an endoscopic incision, an endoscope (a small tube with a camera) is placed through small incisions along the hairline to view the muscle and tissue that need to be lifted. Using another instrument, your surgeon will lift the tissue and keep it in place with sutures, finally closing off the incisions with stitches. With a coronal incision, your surgeon will create an incision across the entirety of your hairline from ear to ear. The forehead is then lifted into place. However, this technique will leave a scar across the entire hairline and is not usually performed on those with thinning hair or high hairlines.
Your forehead may be wrapped gently and loosely following the procedure to help with swelling. A thin tube may be placed under the skin to help drain any excess fluid or blood. Your surgeon will then give you a list of instructions on how to properly care for your incision and pain medications are prescribed to manage discomfort. Physical activity is restricted for as long as your surgeon recommends, and keeping your head elevated at all times is recommended. Your surgeon will let you know when you may resume washing your hair. Swelling lasts for several weeks, and sutures are typically removed in about ten days.
